Infedelity

1. What is the thesis of the article? (One or two sentences only.)

We, human, are shaped by evolution to be polygynous.

2. In what ways are the strategies employed by men and women to pass on the next generation at odds?

Men do not really care about their partners as long as they can have many children and pass on their genes to the next generation. Men’s opportunity to pass on genes is limitless. They have countless number of sperm, which make them not choosy. On the other hand, women seek for the best partner available. The one which will be helpful for raising their offspring. Women, therefore, are choosy.

3. What conclusion does the article draw about monogamy?

Although our nature made us to be polygamy, but our morality is what made us monogamy.

4. In your own words explain the last paragraph of the article.

The last paragraph of the article talks about how we are the most previleged group of living beings. We are moral animal with self-awareness, memory, foresight and judgement. To be moral we first have to understand how immoral we are.

5. What are you personal reactions to the article.

The article is, actually, pretty surprising. Before reading this article I strongly believed that human are made to be loyal to their spouse. According to many religious beliefs, we are supposed to be monogynous, not polygynous as the article reports. The article proof that infidelity of human in our modern society.

Principles of Biological Psychology

  • Everything psychological is simultaneously biological
Biology is the root of psychology. For certain behavior to occur, certain biological act must occur.

  • The nervous system is complexity build from simplicity.
The whole nervous system is built from neurons, a simple building block. The neuron’s task is simple. It can only fire the message through its axon to another neuron or not firing the message. Many neurons made up the subsystems, which made up the whole complex nervous system of the body.

  • The brain is both specialized and integrated.
The brain is composed of several parts. Each part of the brain is specialized with its own unique task of controlling the system. All the specialized parts also work as a team to function the body.

  • The nervous system is “plastic” especially at early ages of development.
New born babies have much more neurons than grown up individuals. Babies’ nervous system is plastic, flexible for changes. As the baby grows up, the brain will get rid of the unused neurons. For example, new born babies have the ability to make all the sounds possible for human. When the baby grew in certain language environment, the baby’s brain will keep the sound needed for that language and get rid of the sounds that are not used in the language.

A Boy Without...

After reading the article "A Boy Without A Penis", I feel really sad toward John because all his life he feel like a boy, but was treated as a girl. Both the doctor and the psychiatrist’s theory changed his life completely. As John grew older, he felt more and more as a boy. The mistake by the doctor also helps shape the world of medication. It proved the gender is equipped since the sperm and egg meet.
